Brielle Students Win Statewide Middle School PSA Scriptwriting Contest
(BRIELLE)- Emily Brzozowski, Audrey Mannion, and Caroline Savage, eighth grade students at Brielle Elementary School, were selected as statewide winners in the Partnership for a Drug-Free New Jersey’s Annual Middle School Public Service Announcement (PSA) Challenge. They students competed against over 500 of their peers from every part of New Jersey to create the most creative and powerful substance abuse prevention television commercial script.
The commercial, which was unveiled for the first time today, was filmed at the Brielle Elementary School, and other local Monmouth County landmarks, and features the students who wrote the script. It will appear as a PSA on stations across New Jersey.
The Middle School PSA Challenge encourages 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students across New Jersey to create a script for a 30 second Public Service Announcement with a peer-to-peer substance abuse prevention message. Entries are judged on creativity, message content, and ability to be produced.
“We were really pleased at the level of quality in all the submissions,” said Angelo M. Valente, Executive Director of the Partnership for a Drug-Free New Jersey. “It was a difficult decision but we were very excited to see the finished product from this very talented group of Brielle students. The Partnership for a Drug-Free New Jersey has consistently believed that peer-to-peer messages such as the ones displayed in this year’s submissions are effective means of countering peer pressure when it comes to drug abuse.”
