Trenton, NJ: Today, New Jersey families impacted by opiate addiction and experts in the field spoke at a statehouse media conference organized by Prevent Opiate Abuse. The group called on Assembly Health Committee Chairman Herb Conaway (D-7) to put bill A-4760, the Parent Notification Act, on the agenda for the scheduled December 10 committee hearing. They also called for a speedy up or down vote for the bill on the Assembly floor.

The Trust for America’s Health lists New Jersey as a disturbing sixth-highest in the nation when it comes to fatal youth drug overdoses. The report, called “Reducing Teen Substance Misuse: What Really works,” indicates that overdose rates the Garden State were highest among young males.

Ocean County leads the state with the most admissions for heroin treatment in 2014, followed by Essex County. Unfortunately, Monmouth County was right behind, ranking third in the state for people needing heroin treatment, according to data from the state Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services.
